Open e-Books
Hopefully, you heard about the 'uh-may-zing' additions to our classroom library. Thanks to my Griffin Foundation Grant, I was able to purchase over 176 brand new books! (You can do the math, but that's less than $2 per book- and most of them are hard back books! I purchased them through First Book, a nonprofit organization that provides access to high quality, brand new books and educational resources - for free and at low cost - to schools and programs serving children in need.
First Book also works with a program called Open e-Books. Open eBooks is an app containing thousands of popular and award-winning titles that are free for children. These eBooks can be read without checkouts or holds. Children can access these eBooks, which include some of the most popular works of the present and past, using the Open eBooks app and read as many as they like without incurring any costs.
I will be sending home letters with directions and activation codes. I was able to get codes for books of all levels, so everyone should be able to find something to read! Please take advantage of this amazing resource.
